Yaji's thoughts...

Balkuru Krishnayaji, one of the much sought-after artistes of Badagutittu Yakshagana spoke to Vijaya Karnataka on Monday.

One of the points he made while answering five questions from the newspaper is that in places like Bangalore sponsors should give priority to professional troupes over amateurs.

I personally think that this is an important matter to be considered for more than one reason. While Krishnayaji thinks so in order for the professional artistes to get due recognition, I think it is also necessary to present the art in its proper shape to the new audience.

I am not dismissing all the amateur performances as sub-standard but some of them certainly leave the uninitiated audience with wrong impressions about Yakshagana....or at least with an 'is-it-all-about-it?' feeling...

Amitha

Yakshagana is art which based on our great epics. However many times artist are modifying the stories of mahabharata and Ramayana...Some cases, the language is too bad.I am unable to seperate drama and Yakshagana....

"Hasya"must be included, however it should have proper context, standards of culture and best language .
I think, it is better to have one leading society or department for Yakshagana which can justify the correctness of speech,talas....etc,,,,

Even expert actors who left “MELA” are also act immaturely. They are as bad as armatures. In many cases I have observed in their dialogues they mix English words and loose dialogues. The comparison they give also vey irrelevant. It is better if they can continue in any of the Melas for continues improvement of yakshagana.

The stories based on Mahabharat and Ramayana still popular among us. The time restriction made big cut in artist's talent. Still I like to watch full night shows.
